SITE – SIDE – SIGHT WALKS
Walking to sites of Indigenous rock drawings,
translating their presence into glass.

Bernadette van der Klooster
Researcher & Glass Artist
Researcher and glass artist working between the Netherlands and Aruba.
Through walking, observation, and reflection, this work explores how traces from the past continue to resonate in the present.
Inspired by Indigenous rock drawings found across Aruba, the project translates experiences of landscape, silence, and time into glass.
By creating new encounters with these ancient drawings, the project seeks to strengthen awareness, appreciation, and care for Aruba's cultural heritage.
A process of walking, reflection, and perception
The project
SITE – SIDE – SIGHT WALKS was developed in collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum Aruba (MANA) and archaeologist Harold J. Kelly. Rooted in Kelly's long-term research into Aruba's Indigenous rock drawings, the project explores new ways of engaging with heritage through walking, dialogue, and glass art.
