BOX 27 - Piedra Plat-1
Sheltered space.
The wind moves.
I stand still.

SIDE
The wind is everywhere on this island. Sometimes it seems to speak to me.
The wind partly determined which sites I visited first.
When I work outside in my studio, at the torch, the wind plays with the flame. Sometimes it is so strong that I cannot continue working.
Then the wind forces me to pause.
In this box, the wind is given a place.
SITE
The walk begins gently along a level path.
A little later, we disappear into the cunucu. Dense vegetation alternates with open spaces. Beneath the surface, you can see the same large tonalite boulders that are visible above ground — the Aruba Batholith.
My companion turns a corner and ducks beneath a rock.
The drawings are located on a rock face. The stones around it form a kind of room. It is sheltered. The wind moves through it, bringing cool air.
Piedra Plat-1 remains hidden.
SIGHT
Piedra Plat-1 is about shelter. About the space between stone and wind.
Here, I felt protected. Connected to the people of that time, who stood in this same place.
The box explores how a place can carry time, and how silence is needed in order to continue.

The stones remain. The wind moves on. For a moment, I find myself in between.
